Product Specifications

Blue Ocean Barns maintains strict physical, nutritional, heavy metal, mineral, and microbiological specifications for Brominata. A quality assurance step in the manufacturing process analyzes Brominata samples to ensure that all commercially produced lots conform to product specifications.

Typical Analysis

A Typical Analysis of Brominata is included with every shipment of our product. This analysis contains average values of various components, macronutrients, and micronutrients that a farmer may expect to find in a typical lot of Brominata.

Basis for GRAS Conclusion

When fed according to the label:

  • • The results of seven in vivo research studies performed in university settings and/or completed hand-in-hand with state or national government bodies (including our 2021 commercial dairy trial at Straus Dairy Farm), indicate that Asparagopsis is both safe and effective under the intended conditions of use.

    • Peer-reviewed and published studies show animals maintain their health and well-being while being fed Asparagopsis:

    ◦ Cattle organs, including the liver, kidney, and rumen, are unchanged through Asparagopsis supplementation.

    ◦ Blood tests confirm the absence of ketosis or inflammation in animals fed Asparagopsis.

    ◦ Informal veterinary inspections confirm that animals remain healthy and maintain weight throughout trials.

    ◦ When animals are fed Brominata at or below the recommended inclusion rate, dietary exposure to all minerals and metals are well within safe limits.

    • Asparagopsis is free of toxicants, contaminants, and microbes that cause common foodborne illnesses.

    • Trials confirm that animals limit their consumption of Asparagopsis to safe levels.

  • • In repeated trials, the chemistry of the milk and meat of animals fed Asparagopsis was found to be equivalent to that of animals not fed Asparagopsis.

    • Sensory panels (taste-testers) cannot distinguish foods derived from animals that are fed Asparagopsis from those that are not.

  • • Brominata is biologically and nutritionally similar to dozens of commonly used animal feed ingredients. Its botanic classification is similar to the majority of red seaweeds used in animal feed. As a feed ingredient, Brominata contains minerals, energy, protein, and fiber.

  • • Onshore tank environments minimize disruption to natural habitats, nesting grounds, and migration patterns.

    • Brominata coexists in tanks with symbiotic species, where competition and predation that leads to the release of compounds in self defense is minimized.
